Shared welfare-production changes responsibilities for a successful growing up of children and, as such, raises questions concerning the distribution of institutional and parental education and care. Against this background, the article focusses on the digital media use and the nutrition of children. Both topics are currently in the focus of public attention, and, besides parents, day-care centres and primary schools are increasingly being addressed as responsible education and care stakeholders. With reference to empirical studies, the article examines how parents and professionals in pedagogical institutions understand education and care in the context of digital media use and the nutrition of children and what responsibilities they assign to themselves and to the other authority. The research highlights that the interviewed persons follow the idea of parental primary responsibility. Therefore, they do not recognize the digital media use and the nutrition of children as shared welfare production, though they legitimate institutional interventions in these fields if the parents show inappropriate accomplishments of education and care.
