Abstract / Bemerkung
The Netflix original series Élite is an international success, and it seems more than likely that the tackled topics are of interest to many young people. Numerous relevant issues such as the gap between the rich and the poor, drug abuse, homosexuality, islamophobia, and homicide are addressed and turned into a thrilling story that offers valuable impulses for discussing issues that would otherwise be excluded from the Spanish as a foreign language classroom. In emphasising the necessity to include audio-visual materials in the foreign language classroom, this contribution shows how present-day fiction can help to deal in depth with topics that are normally difficult or impossible to discuss. The purpose of this contribution is thus twofold: On the one hand, the pedagogical value of series like Élite is explored; on the other hand, selected examples illustrate how the discussion of fiction can make the unspeakable speakable.
