Abstract / Bemerkung
Video games aimed at motivating players to excercise have gained popularity in the last years, but most games are still designed for indoor scenarios. In this paper, we present a novel game concept: a mobile video game that is controlled by performing tricks on a real skateboard. A small sensor module is integrated unobtrusively and well-protected into the skateboard. The sensor readings are transmitted via Bluetooth to the game which runs on a smartphone. We present the Tilt'n'Roll game as prototype application using this platform. It uses data mining techniques to detect skating tricks in the raw sensor data and awards points based on their difficulty. Audio feedback allows the skater to track his/her progress while skating.
