In most Russian departments of museology and cultural heritage, students are often prepared for routine work in museums. In fact, science is not limited to this: there is such a direction as Heritage Studies, which influences the development of museums and heritage around the world. Basic knowledge in this area can today be obtained at Russian universities, but domestic directions are somewhat different from foreign programs. I talked with experts Mikhail Gnedovsky and Ivan Grinko about the most promising areas that can be pursued now for a successful start to an academic and practical career in the field of cultural heritage, and also selected universities and departments where this is taught.
