**Zusammenfassung**
Basierend auf dem Argument, Entfremdung markiere das zentrale sozialpädagogische Problem, kritisiert der Beitrag, dass der sozialpädagogische TheoriediskursArbeitals eine für (sozial)pädagogisches Denken bedeutsame Kategorie weitgehend vernachlässigt. Dem ersten Teil des Beitrag ging es um eine Klärung, wasArbeitals Kategorie meinen soll und wie sich diese zu Kategorien desSubjektsund der Problemkategorie derEntfremdungverhält. Dabei wurde die theoretische Distanz des (sozial)pädagogischen Diskurses zu Arbeit und die Engführung von Arbeit auf Lohnarbeit kritisiert. Der hier folgende zweite Teil des Beitrags problematisiert das Verständnis von Arbeit alszweckrationalem Handeln. Im Rekurs auf Überlegungen zumGattungswesenim Anschluss an Karl Marx soll die pädagogische Bedeutung von Arbeit begründet und schließlich erörtert werden, inwiefern die Kategorie Arbeit auf Sachverhalte zutrifft, auf die sich Soziale Arbeit in ihrer Praxis richtet.

**Abstract**
Based on the argument that alienation marks the central social pedagogic problem, this article criticizes that the social pedagogic theory discourse “work” is widely neglected as an important category for social pedagogic thinking. The first part of this article deals with the clarification of what “work” should mean as a category and how it is related to categories of the “subject” and the problem category of “alienation”. The theoretical distance of (social) pedagogic discourse on work and constriction of work to wage work is criticized. This second part of the article deals with the problem of the understanding of work as “purposive rational action”. In the recourse on considerations on “species-being” according to Karl Marx, the pedagogic importance of work is justified and finally debated how the category work applies to the circumstances on which social work is oriented in practice.
