Due to the repeated experience of traumatic events before migration, refugees represent aparticular vulnerable group for the development of chronic mental health conditions, withpotential life-long consequences on the integration process into the new environment. Thisvulnerability is aggravated by stressors occurring during and after migration. Furthermore,the opportunity to adequately respond to the mental health needs of traumatized refugees,and to transform the mental health systems to become inclusive for individuals with diversecultural background and language has been missed by many host countries.This symposium will present evidence regarding the impact of immigration policies and visainsecurity on refugee mental health.
