We show that the qualitative\r\ndynamic properties depend crucially on what parents perceive\r\nas the optimal preferences for their children to adopt. Under inter–\r\ngenerationally fixed optimal preferences, the preferences of the cultural\r\ngroups will always stay distinct. If the optimal preferences coincide\r\nwith those derived from the representative group behavior, then\r\na multitude of convergence path types can realize. These contain both\r\nan inter–generational assimilation process toward the same preference\r\npoint, as well as inter–generational dissimilation."}],"locked":"1","intvolume":" 438","keyword":["Continuous Preferences","Endogenous Preferences","Cultural Groups","Assimilation","Socialization","Preference Evolution"],"accept":"1","file":[{"date_created":"1970-01-01T00:00:00Z","content_type":"application/pdf","file_name":"IMW_working_paper_438.pdf","open_access":"1","relation":"main_file","file_id":"2788396","date_updated":"2016-01-19T16:09:04Z","access_level":"open_access"}]}]
