Abstract / Bemerkung
Discusses the contribution of performance routines to achievement in athletes. Specifically, empirical evidence stressing the benefits that athletes can gain by the consistent use of routines are presented. After outlining the characteristics and features of such routines, the use of these routines is described. Then, empirical support for using performance routines is presented. It is maintained that task-pertinent performance routines can help athletes prepare themselves effectively for the sporting act, and in turn improve their performances. Moreover, the benefits of performance routines as well as a three-phase model to teach beginning athletes how to develop and implement routines are presented. In addition, a number of examples of routines that can be used by athletes are outlined and specific routines for basketball and golf are highlighted.
