Der Beitrag geht der Frage nach, warum sich die die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie gründenden Sozialwissenschaftler 1909 so schnell und diskussionslos auf die Werturteilsfreiheit als demonstrativen Programmpunkt einigen konnten. Die Antwort wird darin gesehen, daß das dort als Prinzip angesprochene Phänomen ihnen seit den 1890er Jahren vertraut und selbstverständlich war. Zum einen, aufgrund des während und nach der „Ära Stumm" auf sie ausgeübten politischen Druckes, zum anderen - tiefgreifender und folgenreicher - als Folge des einsetzenden Zweifels am Fortschritt, der die bislang bestehende Verflechtung von Positivismus und Sozialismus löst. Das Wertfreiheitsprinzip erklärt sich so als Resultat der generationsspezifischen gemeinsamen Erfahrung der Gründungsmitglieder der DGS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] The article probes into the question why in 1909 the sociologists who founded the German Society for Sociology agreed so rapidly and without dispute on value freedom as a demonstrative point of their programme of principles. The answer is supplied by the fact that the phenomenon apostrophised by them as a principle had been familiar to them since the nineties of the 19th century, and had already become a matter of course. On the one hand, the phenomenon was a result of the political pressure exercised on them during and after the so-called "Stumm era", whereas on the other hand - much deeper and more consequential - it was due to the onset of doubt as regards the feasibility of progress that would resolve the tie-up between positivism and socialism that had existed so far. Hence, the principle of freedom of value can be explained as the result of the generation-specific and shared experience of the founder members of the German Society for Sociology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie).
