Abstract / Bemerkung
A 59-year-old patient with transient global amnesia was tested neuropsychologically during and after the attack. During the attack the patient manifested major problems with anterograde, but not with retrograde memory, thereafter he showed quick recovery to normal performance, Interestingly, cueing and recognition performance during the attack surpassed that of free recall by far, Retrograde memory during the attack seemed to be less impaired than anterograde. These discrepancies are discussed in light of current assumptions regarding recall and recognition performance in amnesics, and the different brain systems engaged in the encoding and retrieval of declarative information.
