Abstract
Derivatographic analysis (TG, DTA and DTG) coupled with mass spectrometry, FTIR spectroscopy as well as water sorption experiments were used to study the thermal properties of (NH4)(32) [Mo-110(VI) Mo-28(V) O-416 H-6 (H2O)(58) (CH3COO)(6)]. approximately 250 H2O (1) exhibiting the nanosized 'giant wheel' anion. The particular stages of sample transformations are discussed and compared with the known single crystal X-ray structure of (1). The giant wheel type clusters appear approximately to be stable up to 350 degreesC. Interestingly, the complex system can be formally considered as a nanostructured landscape embedded in an 'ocean' of water molecules. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
